Have you ever just wondered what it takes for one to be at their most optimum level? How do people work without being distracted, and stay goal-orientated? It has always played on my mind as to how the rest of the human species are able to focus and get things done! If your anything like me, my kind can barely get out of bed to go to the restroom without some sort of motivation. No seriously, it takes a lot to get me interested, and once interested, a lot more to keep me focused. I mean I know some would say well then your not truly there from within are you? Its not coming from a place deep inside which is raging to take the day head on. The truth is, everyday I wake up with a goal, with a target as to what needs to be completed by the end of the day. What sometimes lets me down is my mood. I feel like I could be at a all time high, and I’m able to complete all tasks successfully with a big grin on my face but then at other times, I feel sluggish and do not want to do anything. Any plans that I may have made in the morning would go down the drain and I would just like to sit on the couch with a big tub of ice-cream and Netflix.
Now, to beat out of that blue-feeling I had to come up with a routine, or a plan of action that I would stick to regardless of what I am feeling. Below are 5 actions that I had started to do which are also newbie-friendly, so that you can carry on and smash those targets, but moreover to feel happier and have a more positive outlook.
1- Breakfast – You’d think this would be a simple step right? I mean who doesn’t eat breakfast. Honestly, I don’t think I could remember the last time I had breakfast before starting my journey to a better and healthier lifestyle. But believe it or not, breakfast is KEY to a great energised day. Not only does it wake you up, it allows you to feel great and increases brain stimulation which in turn helps you stay more focused and goal orientated.
2 – Exercise – Believe it or not, as much as exercise sounds daunting and energy-draining, it actually isn’t. Whilst exercising your brain tends to release chemicals called endorphins. Amongst other factors these little energy spurs increase happiness within the system and therefore, leaving us positive and happy thereafter. There have been many times where I’ve been in a rut and my only positive release was the gym; Training. There were even days where I was not motivated at all and did not want to train but forced myself to wake up at 5am & be at the gym at 6am. Sometimes the enforcement of waking up and getting to the gym helped and I would train as normal, other days I would have to not only force myself to go to the gym but also to train? Like I could get myself to the gym but would have to put extra effort in training. But I guess the best part about that was actually getting there, because I realised that even though I didn’t want to be there, the moment I started training, I was okay, I enjoyed it and went the further mile to gain the best results. Now that isn’t going to happen every time, and sometimes your just going to get yourself there, and that’s okay too, as long as you do something and make it worth it, alongside promising yourself you’ll do better the next time. Slowly but steadily, you’d be there more motivated and effective in your training.
3- Plan a To-Do list/schedule – I used to think that planning was weak, like how could people not remember how and when they needed to do things. My dad always used to tell us to make a plan, a schedule and our schedules would just consist of going to school, coming home, eating food, going to after school activities, religious classes, and homework in the evening. I used to think how is that not easy to remember. Little did I know, he was prepping us for “adulthood”. Even though at times I let my ego get in the way and tell myself that its cool, I got this, of course I can remember this, but as we all know theres always things that get in the way, and that we do not always follow the plan in mind, get carried away and forget the original plan. ** Recently I have been working on planning my week roughly over the weekend and create reminders on my phone, and having month planners. TRUST me, it works. Just plan in advance, and it makes things a lot easier. You can always follow along on your phone calendar and it is the MOST satisfying feeling when your going along and checking things off the list. Its a beautiful feeling. urgh.
4- Reminder of why your doing what your doing… the bigger picture – Amidst all the things we get up to in a day to day basis we often tend to forget why were doing what we are doing. Why are we working long hours? Why are we working extra hard to gain that milestone? Why are we finding new ways to make ends meet? Sometimes we get so caught up in making things work we forget why we are doing it and give up. We stop thinking and say ‘forget it, I can’t deal with this’ and stop. that’s okay! There’s nothing wrong with feeling overwhelmed to the point where you feel thats it, its not worth it. That’s normal. The breaking point is when you feel that way, you take a break, and you get back to it. That is how you fix it. Take a break. relax. Take a step back, and remind yourself of your original purpose, why are you doing this? Why is it you want this particular goal so bad? Once, you reconfigure your ‘why’ with your actions, you are more likely to gain a positive attitude towards the action and carry it out successfully.
5- Eat Healthy – Good foods – Super Foods – The thing with eating right is that it is so beneficial for us. More than we know. Take it from someone like me who LOVES junk food. I mean anything chocolate? Count me in. Deserts? Count me in. French fries and a large soda? Yes, some of that too! But what I don’t usually tend to remember is how bad these foods actually are when it comes to motivation and staying positive. I mean how can they affect us in a negative way? It mostly feels great eating and drinking that stuff. But the truth of the matter is, it is bad and does have a negative effect on us. The addictive properties just leave us craving for more and more, and before we know it its draining our mood and our ability to work effectively to help us gain a positive and strong mindset. Eating right, and healthy foods not only allows us to think and work better but also boosts our levels of happiness as eating right leaves a refreshed body, and refreshed body leaves a happy mindset.
There we have it. If I may say so myself, it has taken me a while to understand these pointers and moreover carry them out, but every time I feel as if I can’t, I stop. Take a break, and restart. I hate being in a negative state of mind and hate not being happy and content with myself and my environment, so I do it. I make it work. And I DARE you all to do the same. Every time you fall, and feel your failing, take a step back, relax, breath, and start again, and go in harder than before! I promise one day, you’ll make it and you’ll thank yourself for not giving up, and not giving in to the negativity.
